Taradale Library Extension is About to Start!!!

Artist's impression of the Taradale Library Upgrade.

"The plan of the eagerly awaited library upgrade for Taradale has exceeded our original expectations and we believe the design will make the most of both the beautiful park location, and the redeveloped Library." says Sheryl Reed, Manager, Napier Libraries.

An upgrade of the Taradale Library has been evolving over several years, with passionate support from the Taradale community, represented by the Taradale Friends of the Library, who put a submission to Napier City Council for the 2003/2004 Annual plan, requesting that the extension of the Taradale Library be put back into the 10-Year Capital Plan. This was further researched and documented by Leslie Clague, the former Library Manager, in her ‘Review of Library Services’ 2005; and followed up by the OCTA Associates Limited Service Delivery Study 2007. It is also included the OCTA report recommendations as adopted by Napier City Council last August. Taradale’s extension is one of a number of redevelopment projects in which the Libraries are currently involved.

BECAUSE THE EXTENSION IS SO EXTENSIVE IT REQUIRES THE LIBRARY TO BE CLOSED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.

Services provided from the time of closure will be:

  • a drop off bin for book returns located in the Lee Road public car park.
  • Disabled borrowers will have a special 'temporary' service provided. This is on a case by case basis. Please apply in writing to Napier Libraries, PO Box 940, Napier. Att: Chrissy Arnold.
  • There will be a special 'Free Friday bus' between Taradale and Napier ON SHOWING YOUR LIBRARY CARD. Leaving outside the Taradale library on Friday at 12 noon and returning from outside Napier library at 2pm.

Follow the progress on the display boards in the Napier Library and in the City Council foyer or on this website. The official date for closure will be advertised very soon.

Self issue machines have arrived!

Future delivery of Library Services

It's all about meeting the needs of Library customers now and in the future!

The first step in the process has been completed with the moving of some of the collection to the basement, freeing up space on the shelves; but still allowing items in the basement to be borrowed on request at the counter. Watch the project progress through the stages by following our display below. Display boards are also located in both Libraries and at the main reception floor, Napier City Council. Visit these for more information or ask your friendly librarian.

Library Progress

An Investigation into enhancing the future delivery of Library Services.

The findings and recommendations of the service delivery study recently conducted by OCTA Associates Limited have been adopted, recently, by Napier City Council.
